Laura Gilmore

School Director and Senior Yoga teacher

Laura Gilmore leads the training programmes at Bristol School of Yoga. Laura has practiced yoga since 1990 and been teaching since 2002. She is the director of Bristol City Yoga studio, the sister business of Bristol School of Yoga. She is a registered Senior Yoga Teacher (SYT) with Yoga Alliance Professional.

Laura shares an in depth knowledge of yoga traditions, meditation practices, and pranayama techniques. Her teachings and practice have evolved from dynamic ashtanga and comprehensive hatha to subtle chakra and tantra work, focussing on the precision of Iyengar.

Throughout her yoga journey, she has had many teachers from different traditions, and with great respect brings aspects of different traditions together. Most recently she has studied intensively with Anodea Judith and Tias Little, for many years she has studied with senior Iyengar teachers and Ashtanga teachers. She has also practiced Zen meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh (Zen), Vipassana meditation and tantra with Mukunda and Chinnmasta Stiles.

She is known for intelligently sequencing classes to enable students to move deeper into the asana whilst focusing the mind. Laura teaches with frankness, warmth, and humour, celebrating the absurd and the beautiful in this journey of being human. Her wisdom is shared with you openly and fully, she is humble and grateful to all those who come to learn and practice with her. She experiences yoga as a means of deep personal transformation- coming to a place of greater acceptance within oneself. It is this heart of yoga she hopes to share with you.

Over the years, Laura’s studies took her to new places spiritually and geographically as she ventured from the UK to France and India to study alongside some of the world’s most respected yoga and meditation teachers.

She is known for intelligently sequencing classes to enable students to move deeper into the asana whilst focussing the mind. Laura teaches with frankness, warmth, and humour, always celebrating the absurd and the beautiful in this journey of being human.

Laura’s classes provide ample opportunity to share her experiences and in depth understanding of Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinayasa Flow. With small intimate groups and one to one sessions, Laura shares the pearls of wisdom learnt through her own journey.

Laura has practiced alongside a number of influential yoga leaders and meditation experts including, Thich Nhat Hanh, Nancy Gilgoff, Sharath Rangaswamy, Rudra Dev, Anodea Judith, Tias Little, Mukunda Stiles, Angela Farmer.
